Update of Olympic Rings

For anyone interested in photographing the Olympic Rings in Coal Harbor, this is the lighting sequence until the Olympics begin.

Mon: 17:23 Red

Tue: 17:24 Blue

Wed: 17:26 Yellow

Thur: 17:27 White

Fri: 17:29 Green

Sat: 17:30 Red

Sun: 17:31 Blue


After the Opening Ceremonies, they will be displayed in full Olympic colors ... so all 5 rings will be a different color. They are currently replacing the black ring with white for the solid display.

The schedule I sent was for that week only. For the next two weeks it should be:

Feb 1 Monday Green
2 Tues Red

11 Thur Green
12 Fri Opening Ceremonies - I'm hoping the true 5 colored rings

Of course they can change this at any time.


The time gets progressively later with each night as the days are getting longer now but lately has been about 5:30. I have been down to get each of the colors and sometimes they change things a bit and you get multicolored although not the true Olympic colors and then it goes back to a solid color. I was told they were not going to display the true 5 colors until the games begin. Another thing to watch is the sails of Canada Place in the background which change colors as well .. various solid colors as well as even Olympic banner colors and skiers or bobsled athletes on them. After the 12th they will be in full light show mode changing colors all the time and displaying the true colors as medals are won by Canada ... at least that's what I've been told.

Where have Vancouver's big rings gone? No mystery, say Olympic officials


VANCOUVER, B.C. - Under the incessant grey skies of Vancouver, the international media has had at least one glimmer of light for photos in the lead-up to the Games.

And now that's been taken away, too. A massive set of Olympic rings that lit up nightly atop a barge in the waters of downtown Vancouver mysteriously disappeared Tuesday.

Vancouver Police say they know nothing about the missing rings, once located inside the Games' marine security zone and outside their jurisdiction, adding with a chuckle that they'd be tough to steal and even more difficult to pawn.

One rumour was that they'd been moved to act as the final cauldron for the Olympic flame during next week's opening ceremonies.

But Olympic organizers say there's no mystery or conspiracy afoot - the rings have been taken away for a power refitting and should be glowing again in the next few days.
